Understanding 360° Abdominoplasty
360° abdominoplasty, sometimes referred to as circumferential abdominoplasty, is a comprehensive body contouring procedure that addresses excess skin and tissue not just at the front of the abdomen, but around the entire midsection.
Unlike a standard abdominoplasty, which typically targets only the front of the abdomen, this technique is designed for patients who require a more extensive skin excision and contouring - most often after significant weight loss.
What Does the Procedure Involve?
A 360° abdominoplasty involves removing excess skin and tissue from the front, sides, and back of the torso. The goal is to reshape the body’s contours, tighten the skin, and improve the junction between the lower back, hips, and abdomen.
It often includes tightening of the abdominal wall muscles, and may be performed alongside liposuction to assist in shaping and refining the result. Every surgical plan is tailored to the individual, and this procedure is typically suited for those who have experienced large changes in weight or body composition.
Who Is It For?
This type of surgery is best suited to patients who:
Have excess or lax skin that extends around the torso
Have achieved a stable weight following significant weight loss
Are physically well, with no underlying health conditions that may interfere with healing
Have realistic expectations of surgical outcomes
Are committed to maintaining their results through ongoing health and wellness
It’s important to note that 360° abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss or an alternative to healthy habits - it’s a reconstructive procedure designed to address physical changes that can’t be corrected with diet or exercise alone.
Recovery and Downtime
Recovery following circumferential abdominoplasty is significant and should be carefully planned. Most patients will require around 3–4 weeks away from work and normal duties, with limited physical activity for up to 6 weeks.
Swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness are common in the early stages of recovery. Support garments are worn to assist with healing and shape, and patients are monitored closely during their post-operative care.
Every recovery is different, and you will be provided with detailed aftercare instructions to support your healing journey.
Important Considerations
As with all surgical procedures, there are risks involved, including bleeding, infection, delayed healing, scarring, and changes in sensation. These will be discussed with you in detail during your consultation, along with a full review of your medical history and suitability for surgery.
A GP referral is required to book a consultation.
If you’re considering body contouring surgery, the best next step is to organise a consultation. Every body is different, and your treatment plan should be too.
